A friend asked me the other day. Why are you doing all this work?” she meant my work making art with fabric collage and embroidery. After all, she said, you are retired now. You could, she said, lie on the couch all day and watch films.
Yes, I replied but I love making what I do. I adore being in my atelier and fiddling around with bits of fabric and mixing colours, especially choosing applying colours. Why would anyone, of 74 years of age, get up at 6:30 every morning, have breakfast and take out the dogs for an hours walk at the precise hour of 8am in the cold, rain, snow or heatwave. Why? because its a discipline that I like to have to start my day with breathing in the fresh air, watching the dogs enjoy themselves in the woods, and listening to the sounds of the countryside.
its been almost two years now that I closed my shop after almost 20 years as a shopkeeper. I immediately wanted to arrange a studio, a room where I could spread out and use my imagination to create whatever I wanted. Living in the countryside I’m surrounded by birds in my backyard. Their song wakes me in the Spring months and their colours, textures and feathers enchant me all year round.
I do hope you will come to my “Open house” days so that I can show off my work; perhaps do a demonstration to those interested and even sign up to an “atelier 2024” to learn more.
All for now,
